Staycations are great ways to save money, and fun times are waiting to be had. Unity One St. Paul staff members Erica and Kelsey compiled three Minnesota staycations that are cheap and will be memorable.
- Como Zoo & Conservatory (1225 Estabrook Dr., St.Paul, MN 55103) - Visit the zoo, walk through the exotic gardens and have a picnic. Play miniature golf for $5/day, ride the restored carousel for $1.50/per person (kids under one-years-old are free) and visit Como Town carnival for $19.95/day. Here's a hint: go to Como Town after 4 p.m., and a night of fun for the kiddos is only $13.95.
- Lake Elmo Park Reserve (1515 Keats Ave., Lake Elmo, MN 55042) - This place ROCKS! You can pay $5/day to enter or buy a $25 season pass. The pass is recommended because it gives you access to eight other parks around Washington County. Unity One families like to visit the swimming pond, a man-made and chemically-treated wet area that is watched by 10 lifeguards until 8 p.m. Modern campgrounds may be reserved for $7. They inlcude: hiking trails, boat launches, fishing piers, playgrounds, archery ranges and nature programs.
- Raceway to Fun (910 Hastings Ave., Newport, MN 55055) - This place is loaded with family fun! There is a cost here, but it is very small. The driving range prices begin at $5 for 35 balls and end at $14 for 190 balls. The batting cage is $1 for 20 balls. Miniature golf is $5 for 18 holes. The arcade games cost $.25/game. Go-karts are $5 for a single kart and $6 for a double kart. Bumper boats are $5 for a single boat and $6 for a double boat.
