Powernaps opens in North FW and close to BNSF

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, napping and a good night's sleep can increase productivity on the job. One-third of American workers aren't sleeping enough to function at peak levels, and the exhaustion is costing billions of dollars, according to Harvard Medical Nap podSchool.

Melatonin-regulating lighting and sleep-hygiene courses? These are just some techniques that companies like Procter & Gamble and Goldman Sachs Group are implementing to help employees "improve their slumber."

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 40.6 million of American workers, or about 30 percent of the workforce, don't get enough rest. Also, sleep deprivation cost U.S. companies $63.2 billion in productivity because of the lack of "presenteeism" or people showing up to work and operating below level. Another interesting statistic from Singapore Management University: employees waste an extra 8.4 minutes online--checking email, refreshing the TMZ.com home page, and so on--for every hour of interrupted sleep the previous night.

Sleep deprivation is a hot-topic, especially for industries like finance, and they have enrolled employees in sleep studies and programs such as those designed at Johnson & Johnson's Wellness and Prevention Unit. It requires participants to keep a diary, and then recommendations are made based on the patterns.

Other companies such as Google, Nike and Ben & Jerry's have purchased nap pods that block out light and sound. NASA found that a 40-minute power nap can increase alertness by 100 percent.

Napping improves learning and memory function, prevents burnout, heightens senses and creativity and improves health and mood.

BNSF Railway managers can find a solution to lagging employee productivity in Powernaps, a studio with nap pods, located at 2740 Western Center Blvd., Ste. 500 (in the same shopping center as Subway). Powernaps President Ted Olsen and associates have created a zen-like environment complete with FREE wifi and a juice bar. Napping chairs or pods are in three separate rooms to ensure privacy and promote relaxation.

Think of Powernaps as a place for company employees to "charge-up" in preparation for a meeting, or it can even be the place for a busy Mom to grab some Zs before running the next errand. Convenience and affordability are key.

Monthly memberships start at $39/month.To learn more about Powernaps, call 817.231.5110, email at info@powernaps.com or visit www.powernaps.com.
