I’m sure many of you have heard about the scandal at Wells Fargo, one of the nation’s largest banks. Wells Fargo was fined $185 million, and over 5,000 employees were fired after it was discovered that bank employees had opened as many as two million unauthorized deposit and credit card accounts in order to meet sales quotas. This is just another example of the pattern of bad behavior by many big banks in their continual pursuit of boosting profits. Other banks have received hefty fines or paid huge legal settlements for questionable mortgage practices. Most have eliminated free checking and raised fees across the board.Gary_Williams_reading.jpg

Big banks are beholden to shareholders and are driven by the desire to increase profits. Unity One Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative. As such, we put people before profits. Our members’ financial well-being is our only goal, and we strive to provide you the best value in financial services. As a cooperative, “profits” are returned to our members in the form of lower loan rates, higher deposit rates, lower fees (in fact most of our services are free!) and by investing in expanded services to meet our members’ needs.

As a financial cooperative, we operate on the philosophy of people helping people. We exist only to serve our members – not some distant, faceless shareholders. As a member, you are a part-owner of Unity One Credit Union, and our sole focus is on doing the right thing for our members. You have made a wise choice by being a member of Unity One Credit Union.

You can rest assured that we work hard every day to earn your trust and to provide you the best value in financial services. We never forget that we exist for you and we are dedicated to providing you a better banking experience. Thank you for your membership!
